An intimate wedding at Highgate Cottages, Newtown
A beautiful self-contained holiday let, a rotunda surrounded by trees and a small gathering of friends. Amy and James’s wedding at Highgate Cottages was full of personality, with confetti, countryside views and a few unexpected guests in the photographs.

There is something lovely about a wedding that feels like a gathering of friends. At Highgate Cottages in Newtown, the setting brought together the comfort of a holiday stay and the occasion of a wedding, with access to a rotunda giving the day a distinctive focal point.
For Amy and James, it was an intimate celebration in a beautiful corner of Mid Wales. The photographs tell that story through the people around them: smiling faces lining the confetti walk, friends gathered in the sunshine and the two of them holding hands out in the countryside.
A holiday-let setting with a beautiful rotunda
The self-contained accommodation was part of what made this wedding setting feel personal. Rather than a vast space to fill, it offered the backdrop for a smaller celebration centred on being together.
The rotunda brought its own character. Cream columns and delicate decorative metalwork stood against the trees, with flowers at the entrance and chairs arranged in front. In the sunshine, the curves of the structure cast patterns across the paving. It was a lovely detail to photograph before turning the camera towards the people.
Confetti and a close circle of friends
The confetti photographs capture the warmth of this wedding particularly well. With friends close on either side and the rotunda behind them, Amy and James walked hand in hand through a shower of petals. The blues of the guests’ outfits, the bright sunshine and Amy’s smile give the scene so much life.
A small guest list can make group photographs feel wonderfully personal. Here, heart-shaped sunglasses brought a playful touch to a portrait of the bride and her friends, with the green hills stretching out behind them. A pony beside the fence made its way into the frame, too.
An alpaca, a veil and a very happy bride
One of the most characterful photographs from the day is Amy beside an alpaca. Her heart-shaped sunglasses and the sweep of her veil sit alongside the animal’s wonderfully curious expression. In black and white, the light catches the veil and draws the eye straight to her smile.
These are the moments that give a wedding gallery its personality. Alongside the setting and the carefully chosen details, there is room for humour and the things nobody could have planned quite so precisely.
A little space for countryside portraits
The couple’s portrait offers a quieter contrast. Holding hands beneath a wide sky, Amy and James look towards each other, with the fence line leading away across the field. The black-and-white finish brings out the shape of the landscape and the light in Amy’s dress.
Together, these photographs hold several sides of the same day: the beauty of the rotunda, the fun of celebrating with friends and a moment for the newlyweds in the open landscape.
